Snow Cast Pendant

"Snow Cast" Range

Limited Edition Silver Snow Cast Range.

Snow Cast Earings

The originals of these shapes were formed by dropping molten silver into hard packed snow.

Romantic though the image is of casting silver over the countryside, I actually bring the snow into the workshop in a large crate. The metal is melted in a hand-held crucible, then at EXACTLY (!) the right moment, dropped ( or cast ) into the snow. The virtually instant cooling of the silver causes it to crinkle and take on a freeform shape. At the same time the silver sinks into the snow and can only be retrieved by melting out all the snow in the crate.

At this point all the shapes are black, and have to be reheated and plunged into acid to clean them. Only then am I able to review them and select the most appropriate ones to from the basis of my new designs.

Only a few of each shape are produced ( usually 100 ) making them a truly LIMITED edition. They can, however, be produced, to order, in 9ct, 18ct gold or platinum. Please contact me me for details.

Most of my designs are from snow casting performed in my studio in Dorset on February 27th 2004 . ( The first snow since we moved there in 1997.)
